Conceptualization of Science Conclaves
Modern life owes much of its existence to the scientific contributions in the form of inventions and discoveries. The painstaking efforts taken by researchers and scientists to come up with marvelous discoveries and applications for the benefit of society speak volumes about the importance of science and technology in our day to day life right from a small safety pin to an aircraft and the like.
Science is an infinite art with limitless boundaries, unknown frontiers and with multitude of branches of study which need continuous updation and addition, and so the R&D is an unending and integral process of science. Needless to say then, that science education and research & development lay the foundation for the technological advancement of any nation today, especially in the present era of globalization and commercialization.
But, globalization has brought with it quick-fix solutions for everything including choosing a lucrative career with least effort and short term monetary gain, and this has resulted in some disenchantment with pursuing a career that needs total devotion and intense scientific pursuit through research & development.
In retrospect, we remember the efforts of the Western Countries by way of organization of Annual Lindau Meetings of Nobel Laureates at Germany, which has contributed a lot towards upliftment and rejuvenation of basic sciences in that part of the globe.
Concern was also raised in India about the alarming situation at the highest level by our Prime Minister and other senior thinkers. The Science Conclaves were conceptualized with the vision of reinventing and reinvigourating basic sciences in the country which received support from the MHRD & DST, Government of India.
Hence, the three Science Conclaves of Nobel Laureates were organized in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad . a premier Institute involved in R&D in Information Technology and related areas at the Sangam City . Allahabad, the confluence of holy Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati, befittingly holding the SANGAM or CONGREGATION of Nobel Laureates at this noble city.
Objectives
The presence of Nobel Laureates will promote a dialogue between the scientists of today and tomorrow as well as beyond.
